Logistics–Transportation, Lodging, Meals

Transportation:

You will be responsible for your own transportation. This includes any air travel. For most workshops you will be responsible for your ground transportation as well. Some people are able to drive to the workshop site and use their own vehicles. Others rent cars.

For camping workshops (such as Iceland in 2019) you can share a camper or go solo, depending on who else is there and your comfort level.

For non-camping workshops, time in the car between destinations is an opportunity for asking questions and discussions, and also decision-making about what’s next. If the group is small enough, it’s great to all be in one car together. If we’re a bigger group, we’ll expand cars as necessary.

Please work with me ahead of time regarding car/camper sharing. I’m happy to suggest combinations among those who are coming. Ultimately this is your decision. You may decide to have a vehicle to yourself for maximum flexibility, but then you might feel disconnected from others. I think generally sharing with others as feasible makes the most sense.

Lodging (non-camping workshops)

Unless otherwise specified in the workshop logistics for your workshop (i.e. camping workshops), I will be renting a house or other lodging in the area we are interested in photographing. With some workshops it may be a series of such facilities. The cost for this is included in your workshop fee.

There is generally a variety of room situations. I always ensure there is a bed for everyone. I can’t always promise a private room. Please let me know if you have any considerations around sharing space.

We’ll be using the lodging facilities both for sleeping, as well as reviewing on images with computers, and some meals.

Meals:

The price of food is not included in the workshop pricing.

The meal planning is designed to minimize the time spent on food so we can focus on photography. My aim is to keep meals as simple as possible. Many of us have different dietary customs and restrictions, so it’s much easier if we each take care of ourselves.

Liquid

It’s vital to stay hydrated, especially when we’re working outside. Please bring a good water bottle you can carry, and keep in the car more water than you think you might drink.

Breakfasts:

Bring what you like for breakfasts and please do your best to keep it simple. We plan to get out early to catch morning light, so if you want to eat before then it will likely be before the sun rises. Or, bring food that you can take along in the car.

Lunch and snacks:

We will often be far from our lodging and any restaurant. Please bring what you need. For myself, I’m likely to bring some bread and peanut butter, some nuts and some fruit. I always keep a few granola or energy bars as backup. Bring a cooler if you need one. If you’re traveling by air, let me know and I may be able to bring one for you.

Dinners:

We’ll go out each evening in a moderately priced restaurant not too far from our lodging. In camping workshops, we’ll be doing dinner wherever we are, and sometimes may find a restaurant. Please plan to be flexible on this.

Thank you for your interest in attending one of my destination workshops. These adventures can be a tremendous amount of fun, and, they require some preparation. Please review each of the following pages to ensure you’re well prepared.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS AND WEBINARS WITH JASON WESTON

DEATH VALLEY WORKSHOP – OCTOBER 13-17, 2019

Death Valley is a jewel, a land of shifting sands and deep stability. Depending on time of year it can be unbearably hot, or miserably cold. We're aiming for that sweet spot in between when it's comfortable to be there.  This workshop is currently under construction. I’ll have a detailed itinerary and pricing soon. If you think you want to participate, please contact me.
